Stages:

Stage 1: 22.5 miles - Judge C.R. Magney State Park to Grand Marais, MN
Stage will start in the Judge C.R. Magney State Park parking lot and follow the Superior Hiking Trail for its entire route. Follow Superior Hiking Trail signs and blue blazes. Stage will end at Pincushion Mountain trailhead parking lot on Co. Rd. 53 (Pincushion Drive) just off Gunflint Trail (Co. Rd. 12) in Grand Marais. No additional route marking necessary.

Group camping area will be designated. Group camping will be available at the Grand Marais Municipal Campground. Runners and their gear will be shuttled from start to finish and on to campground.

Stage 2 will start at Pincushion Mountain trailhead parking lot on Co. Rd. 53 (Pincushion Drive) just off Gunflint Trail (Co. Rd. 12) in Grand Marais. Follow Superior Hiking Trail signs and blue blazes. Stage will end poolside at Caribou Lodge at Lutsen Resort on Cook Co. Rd. 5 (Ski Hill Rd.). Additional markings will direct runners to finish line at Caribou Lodge. Same finish line area as spring and fall Superior Trail Races.

We are working to secure group camping at Lutsen Resort. If we are unable to secure a group camping location, the race will reserve a Townhome at Caribou Highlands for runners to use for cooking and sleeping. The townhome has a full kitchen and can sleep many runners in rooms, sleeping bags on the floor and on the balcony. It may be tight, but comfortable. Runners can use the pools, hot tubs and other Caribou Highlands amenities.

Stage 3: 17.3 miles - Lutsen, MN to Tofte, MN
Stage will start at trailhead parking at Lutsen ski area on Cook Co. Rd. 5 (Ski Hill Rd.). Follow Superior Hiking Trail signs and blue blazes. Stage will end at Tofte Town Park in Tofte, MN. When runners reach the top of the Superior Hiking Trail, just before going up to the summit of Carlton Peak, they will be directed to turn left onto the Ted Tofte Overlook Spur Trail. This intersection will direct runners off of the main Superior Hiking Trail and will be marked clearly with pink flagging. Go a short distance and turn right onto an old, overgrown road. Follow the old road down to a gravel road. Follow the gravel road downhill, staying right at intersections, to the paved Gitchee Gammee Bike Trail. Go left onto the paved bike trail and follow the bike trail all the way to where it crosses Highway 61. Cross Highway 61 onto Tofte Park Road at the Sugar Beach Resort sign. Follow Tofte Park Road to the finish line at Tofte Park on the shores of Lake Superior. The spur trails and gravel roads will be marked with pink flagging.

The trail is marked well with these signs and blue blazes, but you will need to pay attention to follow these signs. If you pay attention, you will have no problem following the VoyageurQuest course.

All runners will receive official VoyageurQuest technical apparel
All finishers will be ranked and will receive a unique VoyaguerQuest finishers award
First place Male and Female will receive distinctive VoyageurQuest Champion awards.
First place Male and Female will earn the VoyageurQuest "Leaders Jersey", which they will also keep.
Post Race Celebration:
Awards will be presented to runners and pizza will be served at the post race awards celebration.
Post race celebration will take place at the Bluefin Bay Resort near the finish line in Tofte, MN. Celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday August 23. All runners, whether they finished every stage or not, will be invited to the celebration. Donations for other family members eating at the celebration will be accepted. Please let race management know how many additional family members will be attending.

Average temperatures in September for the Grand Marais, MN area include a high temperature around 60 Degrees F. and a low temperature around 41 Degrees F. Temperatures inland, away from Lake Superior can be hotter. Average precipitation in September is 3.4 inches.
